2013 Maserati Quattroporte GTS
This Italian stallion wants to take on the Rapide and Panamera
It’s a battle of luxury land yachts and Maserati wants to show the world that it is still a premier auto manufacturer. With luxury sedan sales becoming a now staple for many of these companies means that producing a powerful “alpha male” sedan comes with the territory. The problem that Maserati faces is that the company needs to cut down on emissions and raise fuel economy like the rest of the auto manufacturers so we might see a wheezy Quattroporte starting off the lineup.
2013 Maserati Quattroporte GTS Specs
Just like every other manufacturer, weight is the biggest challenge as these cars just simply weigh to much. If you shed weight then you save fuel as well as bump up every performance characteristic so look for the engineers to work on shedding weight where possible. As for the engine bay it looks as if we might see a turbo six-cylinder becoming a part of the lineup. With parent company Fiat slapping a turbo on everything from a Dodge Dart to a new Ferrari F70 in the works means that we will likely see some V8 hp while still producing better fuel economy and fewer emissions. For the higher end we might see that beautiful normally aspirated 4.5L that is used in the Ferrari 458 Italia hoofed up to the 8-speed automatic. Sure it won’t have the 562 hp but it should still produce 500 and give off an eargasmic sound that will make your lip quiver and be in need of a cigarette.
2013 Maserati Quattroporte GTS Price
The car will likely have the underpinnings of the Chrysler 300C which will give it AWD as well and therefore we should see some very impressive numbers as far a 0-60. Of course Maserati could take the redneck way and place a good ol’ HEMI under the bonnet such as the upcoming supercharged 6.4 L that will produce around 600 hp but that would degrade the Maserati stigma in my mind. Sure it will be running 0-60 in 4.5 sec and probably a 11 sec ¼ mile but I think Maserati needs to distinguish itself from the pack by using some fellow Italian parts. Look for a starting price to be around $120k.
