2017 Aston Martin DB11: Benchmark Performance and Design
Aston Martin has officially unveiled the 2017 Aston Martin DB11 today at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, the latest addition to be added to its family of luxury high-performance vehicles. Representing a new chapter in Aston Martin’s history, the DB11 is the first product launched under the company’s ‘Second Century’ plan.
Aston Martin Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Andy Palmer said “We aspire to make the most beautiful cars in the World. DB11 is the absolute embodiment of what Aston Martin should be and we have worked tirelessly to ensure that DB11 combines both exceptional design with the latest technology throughout. A brand new bonded aluminum platform, clever aerodynamics, a new characterful twin-turbo V12 and class-leading infotainment systems are just a few aspects which make the sports car that will proudly spearhead Aston Martin’s second century plan”.
The 2017 Aston Martin DB11 embodies a distinctive and fresh design language, cutting-edge aerodynamics, and is powered by a raging new in-house designed 5.2 liter twin turbocharged V12 engine. Built of a new stronger, lighter, and more efficient aluminum bonded aluminum structure, the 2017 Aston Martin DB11 is the most efficient, powerful and aerodynamic model in Aston Martin’s history. It is the most significant new vehicle to be introduced by Aston Martin since the DB9 in 2003.
At the heart of the 2017 Aston Martin DB11 is a 5.2 liter twin-turbocharged V12 producing 600 BHP and 700 Nm of torque. Designed in-house, the new engine shoots from 0 to 62mph in just 3.9 seconds accelerating all the way up to 200mph. This makes the power plant the most powerful and fastest Aston Martin engine ever produced. To optimize efficiency , several engine management technologies were added such as intelligent bank activation and start-stop driving that improve the overall driving experience.
To fully realize the benefits associated with the new engine in the 2017 Aston Martin DB11, changes were made to other vehicle systems in order to optimize performance and the driving experience. The DB11’s chassis, steering, suspension, and electronics have been redesigned and new technologies have been integrated. The 8-speed automatic ZF transmission has several driver selectable ride modes – GT, Sport, and Sport Plus. In response to the ride mode selected, engine and transmission outputs in combination with a new steering and braking system adjust the firmness of the vehicle’s ride for greater agility.
To ensure the 2017 Aston Martin DB11 is a car for the 21st Century, the latest technologies have been integrated that are consistent with Aston Martin’s tradition of hand craftsmanship and use of only the finest quality materials. Driver and system informatics is channeled through a 12” LCD display that is the focus of an all-new instrument cluster. A second, centrally mounted 8” screen channels infotainment into the cockpit of the vehicle. New electronic systems in the DB11 include a new satellite navigation system, audio system, auto-park assist and a 360-degree birds-eye view camera. Electronics have never been easier to use nor have the ever provided a better sound experience.
In addition to a beautiful new design, exterior highlights include wider door openings, significantly more occupant space where it really counts, headroom and back seat leg room. Interior highlights include a wide array of interior options to suit the owner’s personal style.
