2017 Ford Raptor EcoBeast
The Ford Raptor We All Wanted
Updated September 15, 2018
Alright and , how are you gonna produce a truck from the dealer, and with a warranty that can hang with this? Sure truck lovers that don’t own a blue oval will make excuses and say that their truck is better then a Ford Raptor, but you have to know that you’re wrong!
It seems that Ford engineers have some sort of blackmail wizardry over the bean counters in accounting due to the fact that they get to produce vehicles such as this. The biggest change is of course the Eco-boost engine but we will get to that later on.
It seems Ford is actually trying to get some MPG’s out of the Raptor while making it more durable and capable. With an optional TORSEN front differential and Terrain Management System accompanied by optional beadlock wheels means that this can be an extremely good crawler straight from the dealership. Ford is also replacing the 6-speed with a 10-speed transmission that is suppose to stand up to all the daily work and weekend play abuses the owner can throw at it. The new Raptor will actually be able to work (tax write off!) as it is estimated to have an 8000 lb towing capacity. With the extended travel Fox shocks and stronger box steel frame means these trucks will be taking flight too.
What about those 2017 Raptor Specs? Ford is stating that this 2017 Ford Raptor EcoBeast is delivering more of everything (except cylinders). The horsepower and torque rating is 450 hp at 5000 rpm and 510 lb-ft 3500 rpm of torque with a V6! Yep, it seems that with the twin-turbo setup and direct-injection 24V 3.5L, the previous beastly 6.2L V8 (411 horsepower and 434 lb-ft) will now be a fuel guzzling and less powerful beast of burden in comparison. My only question is how will this engine setup prove in high-heat, high-dirt, high-rev situations whenever owners are in the middle of the desert. What will time tell for this powertrain setup?
We do know that over 500 pounds have been shed from the old Raptor and the width is now increased 3-inches overall. This means the Raptor will likely have to stay in the desert due to the fact that it won’t fit between any trees when romping in the woods. But as wide as the Full-size trucks have gotten at least we know that when this baby is airborne that it will be more stable on it’s landing. With the even beefier Fox suspension upgrades and more suspension travel (12-14″est) means that we might get a better distance record posted on .
So GM and Ram what’s the plan? When are we going to see an all out shootout for king of the hill? Post your comments and let us know what you like or dislike about the new 2017 Ford Raptor EcoBeast. Also wonder what ol’ is gonna do with this 🙂
