2018 BMW S1000RR: Clearer Spy Shot Images For Your Viewing Pleasure!
Higher quality images have surfaced of the up and coming 2018 BMW S1000RR
A couple of weeks back we were treated with a low-rez spy shot of the 2018 BMW S1000RR test mule, but now we’ve got clearer and sharper images to analyze and speculate over! Being a full ten years since the S1000RR first rolled on to the scene, any type of update is a welcome one, but this looks to be a fairly heavy duty update, and we can’t wait to see what BMW bring to the table.
The BMW S1000RR was first unveiled in 2008 as a WSBK racer, which was made available to the general public two years later in . When it first arrived on the scene, it was a marvel – and arguably the best machine in its segment. It’s still a fantastic motorcycle now, but the past eight years haven’t been particularly interesting in terms of updates and redesigns for S1000RR. We’ve had emissions changes and the addition of a few more electronics aids, but absolutely nothing has happened to the engine or chassis.
It’s not necessarily a bad thing because people still love the , but in a straight shoot-out against the rest of the class, the S1000RR is severely lacking. It’s not going to win any prizes up against the or . It’s not as technologically advanced as the new generation of s, and even Suzuki have upped their game and unleashed the on the world. With that in mind, it was time for BMW to react. And here’s what they’ve come up with.

So, what can we see here? In the last picture we saw (read about that ) we could clearly see that the 2018 BMW S1000RR has a whole new chassis shape, revised bodywork, and a new swing arm. On top of that, we could see an updated exhaust arrangement, and new headlights too. These new images tell the same story, but give us a little more insight.
First of all, the chassis: it looks like it’s made of aluminum, keeping the whole thing nice, compact and lightweight. Next up, we’ve got the swing arm, which is now braced and supported from below rather than above, mimicking a lot of race machines. And of course, there’s the bodywork: the noticeable differences include the new headlights that sit on either side of the air intake, which are now projector style lights reminiscent of the R1 – the asymmetrical days are over – and the 2018 BMW S1000RR is also fitted with mirror mounted turn signals.
But what of the engine? Since the S1000RR in these images has been equipped with new clutch covers, side cases and cylinder heads, it suggests that the inline four engine has had a fair bit of work done to it. However, don’t take that as the gospel truth, because these upgrades may not be as significant as we guess. We expect a high tech electronics package to be installed though – something that can’t be seen in photos, but something we’d fully expect from BMW’s flagship superbike.
Hopefully the test rider in the photos is just a massive guy – otherwise the 2018 BMW S1000RR might be a little on the small side… Hopefully we’ll get to see this in more detail later on in the year, if BMW decided to bring this to the table as a 2018 model rather than a 2019. We hope it’s the former rather than the latter.
