The 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is Officially an 840 HP Beast!

Not only 840 HP but it Accelerates From 0 to 60 in Just 2.3 Seconds and 140+ MPH Quarter Mile Under 10 seconds

The wait is finally over as specs are here for everyone to see. And, boy, are they something!? After months of teasing, we got the faint idea what this muscle car is supposed to be about, but official figures are beyond our wildest dreams. We knew it would be more powerful than the Hellcat, but 840 HORSEPOWER?! That’s something very few people had expected.

And that’s far from all. 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon has just broken half a dozen of speeding records. Let’s start from the beginning. It accelerates from 0 to 60 in just 2.3 seconds, does quarter-mile in 9.65 seconds at trap speed of 140 mph, and lifts off by slapping you around with 1.8 G’s of sheer force. I said lifts off because that force puts such weight at rear end of this car, that it’s front end actually gets up in the air. People at Dodge say it’ll lift precisely 2.92 feet. Another production car world record for the Demon. All this is possible thanks to the most powerful V8 engine ever put into a production car. 6.2L supercharged Hemi Demon V8 with 840 horsepower and 770 pound-feet of torque.

Speaking of engine, it’s not a tuned up version of Hellcat V8. That would have been easy according to FCA North America’s head of passenger cars, Tim Kuniskis. Dodge wanted to take things to another level. Only cylinder heads have been taken from Hellcat’s already insane engine. Pistons, crankshaft, connecting rods, camshaft, and valve train are all new. In addition, there’s also a new 2.7L supercharger which enables 8 pounds of boost during staging and a total of 14.5 pounds of boost within first six feet.

Judging by all this and the fact that it’s able to switch from conventional to high-octane racing fuel, 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon will be in a league of its own. In fact, Kuniskis pretty much confirmed that by saying:

“We are not trying to be a sports car. We are not trying to be a pony car. We’re trying to be a street/strip muscle car, and there’s no one else in that space.”

All this comes at a price, and I don’t mean what’ll surely be a hefty price tag come fall when first Demons hit the shelves. I mean to say that 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon doesn’t have most of amenities offered in more conventional production cars. It doesn’t have a stereo system, it doesn’t have rear seats… Hell, it doesn’t even have front passenger’s seat. Don’t despair just yet, though. You can option front passenger’s seat for just $1. Luxury of installing the rear seat will cost you another buck. Best $2 I never spent! Optional Harman/Kardon sound system will, however, cost a little bit more.

If you’re interested in one of 3,000 Demons planned for 2018, prices still haven’t been disclosed. If you’re thinking of actually competing in one, you’re out of luck. As soon as NHRA confirmed Demon’s specs and time tables, they banned it from all future competitions. The car hasn’t even been released yet, for crying out loud! Anyhow, Kuniskis had a thing to say about that as well:

“Being banned from NHRA with this car, at first sounds like a negative, but reality is – it’s really huge street credibility for this car. Even the National Hot Rod Association says you’ve pushed too far. You’ve done too much. You’ve broken a record that’s not supposed to be broken in a production car. To me; that letter’s a badge of honor.”
