2018 Ford Mustang Gets a New Performance Pack Poised on Beating the Chevy Camaro SS 1LE

Level 2 Performance Package will be available come spring time 2018

Recently debuted 2018  isn’t the only piece of news coming from the Mustang club recently. Ford has just introduced the Level 2 Performance Package for its iconic pony car that’ll become available come spring time 2018. It’s an upgrade over the currently available Performance Package, and one that’ll finally give some stern competition to the Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE. That way, Ford will finally address the issue of lacking a real Camaro competitor in the entry level pony car segment.

Mustang’s Level 2 Performance Package is basically an upgrade over the aforementioned presently available Performance Package. It includes everything its more affordable and less powerful counterpart has, and more. $3,995 Performance Package adds a Torsen rear differential with 3:73 gearing, Brembo brakes with adjusted ABS tuning, special stability control setup, a k-brace, a larger radiator, and a retuned steering rack. Upcoming Level 2 package builds on that by adding updated MagneRide suspension, high-performance front splitter capable of creating 24 pounds of downforce at 80 mph, a rear spoiler, and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires which can currently be found in the likes of Shelby GT350R, Corvette Z06 and Mercedes-Benz AMG GT R.

Fitted with the new performance package, 2018 Ford Mustang feels and is much stiffer and lower to the ground. Apart from the aforementioned performance upgrades, Level 2 also adds custom Chauncy Eggleston-designed 19-inch wheels and optional leather or cloth Recaro seats. Pricing hasn’t been disclosed yet, but similarly positioned 1LE package on a Camaro costs $6,500. Mustang’s Level 2 Performance Package likely won’t break the $7,000 barrier.

2018 Ford Mustang GT with Level 2 Performance Package will be lightning quick in both corners and straight line. Ford has started accepting orders prior to package reaching dealerships in Spring 2018. Mustang fitted with such package should cost between $40,000 and $45,000 – give or take. However, only those opting for manual transmission will be able to tick the Level 2 box.

About Nikola Potrebić

Despite driving a piece of junk, Nikola still manages to survive the harrowing experience called "A road trip in a Yugo," day in, day out. On the other hand, precious few things move him as muscle cars do. Especially those from the bygone golden era, which makes him wonder why wasn't he born a few decades earlier? Well, at least he's been given the opportunity to enjoy the likes of Pontiak Aztek, Chrysler PT Cruiser, Fiat Multipla, and other lovely millennium cars way, right? Come to think of it, I'll stick with my Yugo. Thank you very much.
