You Won’t Believe Lotus Elise Sprint Freakish Lightness
Admit it, you never thought of Lotus as of something particularly interesting to own! It’s small, too small, has a tiny engine and feels like a go kart among all those massive SUVs and sedans on the streets. Yet, Colin Chapman, who built the company did not think of its cars in terms we do feel about them now – as image enhancing devices. He wanted one thing – to build an exhilarating cheap ride. New cars Lotus builds remained quite literal in that sense. Especially, the latest Lotus Elise Sprint.
Lotus Elise Sprint Will Give You A Lot Of “Carbon” Street Cred
And we mean A LOT. Already light car received a number of awesome carbon fiber elements slashing the weight by quite substantial 90 lbs. This way, small car dips below amazing 1,760 lbs. Is it the lightest sports car on sale!? Probably! And it could be the most fun of all for sure. See, Lotus Elise specs reveal to us that the Elise Sprint has got carbon fiber seats, roll hoop cover, engine cover, and the carbon fiber access panel. That is quite a bit of carbon fiber. Then, the designers decided on using a new lithium-ion battery, bespoke forged lightweight alloy wheels, and a polycarbonate screen.
How can you beat that?
Well, Lotus did beat that too saving weight even on the new design of the open-gate transmission design. Plus, the optional sill covers made of carbon fiber save a couple of pounds too.
Speaking of the new car Jean-Marc Gales, CEO, Group Lotus plc. said, “Once again, the Elise continues to redefine what is possible in terms of adding lightness to a sports car. Whilst other manufacturers try to keep pace with Lotus’ weight reduction achievements, we’ve raised the bar beyond their reach. An agile, lightweight sports car does not weigh just over a ton. It should weigh substantially less and, it is a fantastic achievement from Lotus in ensuring that the fully type approved new Elise now dips below the 800 kg barrier.”
The Best Deal On The Elise Sprint
Entry level model comes with a freaking 1.6-liter naturally aspirated engine getting out 134hp. We aren’t joking. That’s what you get in a funny entry level Hyundai Veloster for goodness sake. But, it can hit some speed fast. Less than 6 seconds to 60 mph. That’s amazing, to say the least.
But here is the kicker.
You can get a supercharged 1.8-liter engine with 217 hp. With it, the tiny car slashes to the magic speed in 4.1 seconds. Like a BMW M3 and much faster than 300hp 2018 Porsche Cayman.
Lotus Elise price starts at $40k in the UK. It goes all the way to $60k for . And that is some serious track ready weapon.
One more thing.
“The new exhaust makes the 1.8-litre supercharged Elise the best-sounding 4-cylinder car on the market,” Lotus reports in their press release. We won’t judge before Lotus Elise review comes out.
