Engine, wing, wheels – everything about the ZR1 is huge

One of the most anticipated cars of the is finally here for us to see. After months of , GM has finally stepped forward and given us the very first look at the upcoming 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. They already like to call their performance linchpin the most powerful and fastest Corvette of all time. But that shouldn’t come as a surprise. Performance wars have been fierce these last few years, and every subsequent top-of-the-line ‘Vette should be right there in a challenge for this coveted spot.
But, what has Chevy given us in terms of ZR1’s critical information? Apart from some pictures that showcase the future street-legal track king. Pretty much everything we need to know at this point. Everything besides the price tag, of course. But even the final sticker can be estimated to a low six digit figure.
Back to the task at hand. 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 will generate a whopping 755 horsepower and 715 pound-feet of twist which should help it to the top speed of 210 mph. Courtesy of a redesigned LT4 engine found in Corvette Z06, Chevrolet has named LT5. It’s basically the same 6.2L supercharged V8, albeit with a 52% larger displacement blower. Apart from generating higher pressure, and thus more power, larger supercharger should also take care of Z06’s overheating issues. Engine also sports GM’s first dual-fuel-injection system necessary to facilitate all the extra forced induction. It’s basically a direct injection supplemented by a few extra port injectors. Finally, there’s also a choice of two transmission options – a 7-speed manual and an 8-speed automatic. The first time an auto has been offered with the ZR1 badge.
Speaking of Z06’s overheating issues, GM engineers took the ZR1 much more seriously. Upcoming ‘Vette king will sport 4 additional radiators bringing the total number of heat exchanging units to 13. This has had a massive impact on supercar’s frontal fascia which takes a new approach. But front end revisions are far from everything the new ZR1 has to offer. It also packs a carbon fiber shaker-style hood bulge to accommodate a 2.9 inches taller Eaton blower and no less than two different optional aerodynamics kits.
First one is called the “ZTK Performance Pack” and includes a gigantic high wing rear carbon spoiler which generates a whopping 950 pounds of downforce. In other words, that’s around 60% more downforce than what Corvette Z06’s Z07 performance package yields. ZTK package also comes with a special chassis tuning, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, and a deep front carbon fiber aero splitter.
Second choice is called the “Sebring Orange Design Package.” As its name suggests, it boasts a lot of orange-colored details including a base paint, rocker and splitter accent stripes, brake calipers, interior stitching, seat belts, and “bronze aluminum” interior trim we can only assume are orangy brushed aluminum dashboard inserts.
Sales will commence in Springtime 2018 and Chevrolet hopes to produce a total of 2,000 to 3,000 ZR1s. The same way they haven’t disclosed a starting price, they also haven’t revealed the aforementioned kits’ prices. That’s something we’ll have to wait in order to find out, but at least now we know the deadline.
