Eric Clapton’s Ferrari F40 Expected To Pull $1.75M At Auction
Eric Clapton has never been a stranger to exotic super cars since his fame gave him the money to afford them. He has a particular fondness for Ferrari to the point of commissioning a one of a kind from the company. This isn’t his 2012 458 Italia based SP12 EPC up for sale, but an F40 from his collection instead.
A Well Cared For Ferrari
Since Clapton was fond of his cars, he took very good care of them and the ones we have seen have had low miles. This 1991 model is no different with only 11,732 miles on the odometer since it rolled out of production. Clapton himself owned this car from 2000 to 2003 and it really seems that the car got special treatment.
Included in the sale are all of the original service books as well as the factory included tools. Since it changed hands from Clapton to the current owner, it has seen regular maintenance. It’s impressive knowing that the car’s brush with fame didn’t make it sell until nearly 14 years later.
Feature of the 1991 Ferrari F40
The exterior is finished in one of the company’s most well recognized colors, Rosso Corsa Red. This is complimented by the deep shade of red that the interior is finished with as well.
The 2.9L biturbo V8 has stayed intact since day one but there has been a refresh of the fuel system. This was a necessary part of maintenance that keeps the F40 in top condition. Even after all these years, it still makes 471 horsepower and generates 425 pound feet of torque.
Asking Price and Expected Take
At the moment, the consigner has the asking price sitting at $1.1 million but it could pull more. The sale is being handled by GVE London but estimates at Hagerty put the possible final price higher.
According to their estimates, this car in its excellent condition may hit $1.6 to $1.75 million. There’s no word on how its former ownership may affect the desirability with collectors who will be bidding.
