Factory Built GT4.R Chevy Camaro Racer Being Released to Privateer Teams
Calling All Serious Racing Teams
Chevy Racing has teamed up with the famed Pratt & Miller Engineering group once again to openly manufacture a new Camaro GT4.R that is ready for the track. Pratt & Miller is also responsible for the Le Mans edition Corvette C7.Rs. This race-ready Camaro has already caught the eye of several teams taking Chevy up on this new offer, and we are likely going to be seeing a lot more of it soon. It could be yours too with the right legal paperwork for only $259,000. Technically they are available to the public, but they are not street legal. The new Camaro GT4.R is however legal to race internationally, which is huge for any true success in the racing world.
The new Chevy racecar is based on the beloved Camaro ZL1 LE. They share the same 6.2-liter V8 and six-speed sequential transmission. Unfortunately, due to class rules that prohibit the use of a supercharger on the regulated tracks, the GT4.R is naturally-aspirated and pumps out around 420 horsepower. After becoming the gutted and mean version of the ZL1 LE that it is, it is also almost 700 pounds lighter.
The GT4.R is also very similar in exterior design and profile to the ZL1 LE. The racer looks callous with wider front fenders, a decent sized hood extractor, sweptback side-skirts, and carbon fiber upgraded doors, front splitter, and front bumper. The upgraded drivetrain powers 18-inch Forgeline one-piece forged alloy wheels. Its safety features have also been amped up to make it race-legal. Included in the safety upgrade are adjustable front and rear antiroll bars, 6-piston front brakes, and 4-piston rear brakes.
The first official race we got to see the GT4.R perform was during the Pirelli World Challenge hosted in St. Petersburg, FL. From there we will continue to see it throughout 2017, and are hoping for the best after all this hype. For us simpletons, it seems strange to be excited about this track ready sportscar that has less horsepower than the street legal version. However, it is how you obtain and harvest that power that truly shows some talent.
