The Ford F-150 Police Responder
Do You Know Why I Pulled You Over?
Ford is known for supplying police cars to the US police force. It currently provides a Taurus-based Interceptor and Explorer-based Interceptor Utility, and who could forget the famous Crown Victoria Police Interceptor? While the company has offered police interceptors for over 60 years, there has never once been a pursuit-rated pickup truck…until now.
Coming soon to US roads, both paved and unpaved, is the Ford F-150 Police Responder. This mean-looking black and blue pickup is intimidating at a mere idle, and will certainly make you think twice about putting your foot down the next time you’re caught speeding.
Using a de-tuned version of the Raptor’s EcoBoost V6, this off-road capable pickup has all-terrain tires capable of speeds up to 100 mph which are wrapped around 18-inch wheels. The V6 puts out 375 hp and 490 lb.-ft. of torque, and although this number is down 75 hp on the Raptor, it is up 20 lb.-ft. of torque. The Responder also utilizes the 10-speed automatic transmission found in the Raptor.
The 145-inch wheelbase of the Responder tells us that it will likely only come in the SuperCrew body configuration, which means there will be plenty of space for wrong-doers in the back. Due to the sheer size of this beast, Ford has had to really consider its options on brakes and suspension for the Responder. It is fitted with a police-calibrated brake system with updated calipers and pads, as well as purpose-tuned FX4 suspension.
Inside, the heavy-dutiness doesn’t end. Rugged cloth seats with anti-stab plates keep criminals in line from the back seat. A 240-amp on board alternator keeps the Police gear all juiced up and ready for use, and helps keeps things running smoothly during lengthy idle times.
The production version is scheduled to come out in spring of 2018, and we’re interested to see what the final version looks like, so long as our first impression isn’t in the rearview mirror…
