5 Seriously Fun SUVs Under $50K
Not One Of Them Come From Germany
Updated September 3, 2017
It can be difficult to be a car enthusiast in the world of today. Cheap compact crossover SUVs without any soul whatsoever are taking the market by storm. In a sea of dull SUVs, crossovers, and whatnot, however, there are definitely still a few gems. Some of them can even be pretty affordable. Fast and affordable? Those sound like some seriously fun SUVs.
Here is a list of 5 SUVs with great features and performance for less than $50,000. You won’t feel dead, old, or mediocre if you buy any one of them. And no, there is not even one German on the list. Reading this you may find out why there is no $47,500 Porsche Macan, or $46,000 X4 M40i on the list.
One car beat them all to the punch.
Ok, ok, it is not an SUV. I know this looks bad, but bear with us here, it gets better.
Imagine this, you are in your forties, life is boring, kids go to school and the like. How to spice up life without doing something reckless? Buy a Wrangler. You will have a place for kids, a lot of space for all their belongings and still won’t feel like you’ve died driving that family friendly Camry or Pacifica. While the least expensive Wranglers go for something like $24,000, there are TONS of options and special editions to choose from. If you don’t want to be boring but need all the prospects of a roomy vehicle, this may be the answer. It is cool and fun. You know it.
Why this? Because it is unique, no one has it, and it still is a great car. After all, the QX30 has been developed with Mercedes-Benz. In essence, it is just a Mercedes-Benz GLA with different exterior panels and interior layout. What’s not to like? It will run forever. While it is a small crossover, its 2.0L turbocharged engine with 208hp make it crisp and engaging. More so with the S package in it which brings in a whole number of cool sporty features to enjoy. You can even get it with AWD!
Really, a rather interesting and fun car that runs like a Mercedes but isn’t one. Awesome.
Now, you might hate us by this point, because we’ve shown you a Jeep, which is not an SUV, an Infiniti CUV, and now this. This is the Nissan Juke Nismo. Sure, it’s not the most “lovable” thing in the world, but considering its 215hp engine, sharp steering, awesome brakes, exciting exhaust and 6-speed manual, you’ve got to be at least a little bit tempted, right?
Sure, at more than $28,000, it is an expensive toy. That’s the thing, though, it’s not a tool – it’s a toy. You will play, you will have fun and, dare I say it, you won’t be judged as someone driving another dull SUV. This thing simply has too much red paint on it for that (including the brake calipers). 60mph in less than 7 seconds and a top speed of more than 125 mph. In short, a hot-hatch. One of the most seriously fun SUVs? For sure!
Yes, this is much more mature and far less exciting choice than what we have presented you so far. However, as far as dull and boring crossovers go, the CX-5 is the least of both. It is an awesome compact SUV managing to retain small car agility and sharpness while still delivering the ‘family feel’ we expect from an SUV.
Sure, no more manual, but a 2.5-liter 190(ish) hp engine and wonderful driving dynamics for as low as $24,000 definitely makes for a fine choice. Fully optioned out, the Mazda definitely stands a chance at being every bit as luxurious inside as you could really desire.
And now, the winner. Sure, it is the most expensive car on the list, but considering it has a 340hp engine, AWD, cool looks, awesome interior and fabulous name, the Jaguar F-Pace is the best way not to look goofy while driving an SUV for less than $50,000. Actually, it can go for as low as $43,500. Pushing its price closer to $50 grand will land some awesome stuff inside that will make you forget about any German, American or Japanese badge. After all, it is not by chance that the F-Pace became an astonishing sales success for the company.
$43,500 will get you a fine 35t model. As far as seriously fun SUVs go, this one is at the top end. The best part is, if you still feel like it’s too big, Jaguar will soon be coming out with the E-Pace CUV, which should be every bit as brilliant for even less money! Now those are some seriously fun SUVs.
