Kawasaki Are Re-Launching The SX-R Jet Ski!

Published August 24, 2016

It’s not necessarily a bike, but it IS a Kawasaki, and it’s probably the closest thing to two wheeled fun that you can have out on the water. Love ‘em or hate ‘em, the humble jet ski has been around for ages and shows no sign of dying. In fact, are taking it one step further and reviving one of their most famous jet ski models: the SX-R. While the rest of the industry are looking to building massive water bikes with more bells and whistles than your average SUV, Kawasaki are returning to their roots and re-introducing their iconic SX-R “stand up” model. They’re going back to basics in a big way.

According to this short teaser trailer, Kawasaki will be bringing the SX-R back this October, with production units filtering down to dealers in 2017. It has been five years since the SX-R was put to pasture, and now they’re bringing it back with a powerful and “competition ready” four stroke engine.  Aesthetically, it seems that the new model will be built with a modern styled, aerodynamic body – perfectly shaped for water racing. Hopefully, the final product will be a little more advanced than its predecessor, which was little more than a hull and with a motor and handles…

Since it’s a Kawasaki though, maybe the SX-R will follow the current ? They have produced supercharged jet skis before…  Supercharged or not, I’ll stick to two wheels, good old fashioned rubber and a nice twisty section of asphalt. I’m just not into jet skis – but that’s my problem. Although, a few weeks back we introduced you to the …a water bike thing that I could possibly get along with…

Anyway, we’ll have to wait until October to learn more about the SX-R and it’s full specs, pricing and availability. We’ll let you know when the time comes…

About

I’ve done a bit of work here and there in the industry – I’ve even ridden a few bikes for actual money but what it comes down to is this: I ride bikes, build bikes and occasionally crash ‘em too. I like what I like but that certainly doesn’t make my opinion any more valid than yours…
