650-HP Lamborghini Urus Specs Revealed

17.3 Inches of Carbon Ceramic Stopping Power

Hate it or love it, SUVs are all the rage right now. Actually, I can comfortably integrate lyrics from 50 Cent ft. Game song “Hate it or love it” here:

Hate it or love it, the underdog’s on top
And I’m gon’ shine, homie, until my heart stop
(Go ‘head envy me, I’m rap’s M.V.P
And I ain’t going nowhere, so you can get to know me)

SUVs most certainly are car market MVPs, considering that people actually spend money on them – money which companies then invest in producing the most outstanding machines in the world. The Cayenne saved Porsche, which means we can still buy a  or the sublime . The and  earned so much green for Audi that the company could comfortably invest in the production of the RS models and the R8 itself. Hell, even Maserati has the Levante now – proof that SUVs help build the car world we know and love. And now I say to you, do not hate the newest addition to the SUV market – the Lamborghini Urus. It is an interesting SUV blooming from the rich soil of Volkswagen Group technologies that may have gotten off on the wrong foot. With an MLB Evo platform used for the Bentley Bentayga, the new Lamborghini Urus SUV benefited from the latest tech the Group has on offer. This marked the integration of a number of important pieces of hardware never before seen on a Lamborghini.

No V12 for the Lambo Urus, But It is Still Plenty Fast

Forget the W12 from Bentley or the V12 from the Aventador here – the Lamborghini Urus will make do with a 650 hp biturbo V8. The four-liter engine is here for a reason. See, as Lamborghini predicts that Chinese market will be the most important for the car, where this advanced engine with its smaller capacity will do very well. Considering the displacement-based tax policy applied in China, that is.

Apart from the V8, the Urus will make do with a ZF automatic transmission utilizing the technology known as a torque converter. It’s a first for Lambo, and it will improve power delivery at the wheels. Some very lucky journalists even had an opportunity to enjoy it. At least in its prototype version.

There, on a test track, the 4,750 lbs SUV was able to hit 62 mph in an astounding 3.34 seconds. True, that is its fastest run, but we are pretty sure that Lamborghini will promote the acceleration time at a more humble 3.7 seconds. Either way, That’s supercar territory in an SUV, in case you weren’t paying attention.

While the Urus might boast some pretty impressive power, it’s the system responsible for stopping the vehicle that we’re most interested in. You see, Lamborghini is slapping what they’re calling the biggest brakes in the world on this SUV, and rightfully so, considering the vehicle’s stout curb weight. The Urus enjoys 17.3-inch carbon-ceramic rotors stuffed under 21-inch rims wrapped in the Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires from the Centenario. And thanks to Porsche-derived four-wheel-steering system, the Urus, apparently, is quite capable of handling itself.

Stay tuned for more on the new Lamborghini Urus in the days to come.

About Safet Satara

I do not have spare time. All there is is car time. 12 years and counting. I am a Central European gearhead, but you are probably thinking - aaa a disposable Borg drone! Well, actually, I like to dress up like James Bond too. The only thing I need to be him is an Aston Martin (and I love DBS more than DB5 because, reasons). That's something I guess.
