Land Rover Discovery SVX V8 Showcases The Ultimate Seven Seat Off-Roader
517hp For A Family Off-Road Focused SUV
Published October 2, 2017
The latest generation of the off-road loving Discovery did not come with a V8 option. It is a somewhat sad proposition really, but the JLR knows well that some simply cannot do without the V8. For them, the latest Frankfurt Motor Show hosted an awesome unveiling of SVX V8.
While it shares the sleek looks and fancy styling with the standard Discovery, the SVX is actually the most radical interpretation of off-roading in the Discovery world right now. It goes without saying that the Discovery is the most advanced off-roader in the Land Rover world, but the SVX takes it all to eleven.
It is a concept though.
Most Powerful Supercharged V8 Motor For the Discovery SVX
Made by a Special Vehicle Operation JLR subordinary, the SVX uses the five-liter supercharged V8 we have seen in multiple uses (from to ). For this iteration, the engine makes do with 517hp and 461 lb-ft of torque. That is a lot of power finding its way to massive 20-inch wheels shod in Goodyear All Terrain tires. Thanks to fine air suspension and long-travel dampers, the new Discovery SVX V8 actually has better approach and departure angles. They did not really disclose how much better, but we do know that a stock unit has an approach angle of 23.6º, a breakover of 20.1º and a departure angle of 25º.
Despite riding on a unibody structure, the Discovery has already proven itself as a rather capable seven-seat off-road focused SUV. In this guise, it definitely grows a new pair with the power to match. The Land Rover improved it further with the Hydraulic Active Roll Control.
Sadly though, this is just a concept.
That, however, may change. See, the Land Rover Discovery SVX V8 showcases the next production model. That one shall come with “normal” civilian tires, a bit softer skid plating and a somewhat more civilized use of red.
The important stuff, however, will definitely remain. At least as an option. According to the info “shy” JLR provided, the Discovery SVX V8 will be hand-built by SVO. Talk about exclusivity!
