Maniacal 2017 Porsche Macan Turbo Performance Package Is What You Need Now
Published September 11, 2016
Porsche does it right. Imagine a corporate meeting where Porsche’s Board discuss their newest small SUV.
“How fast should we make it?” one asks.
“Let’s make it faster than ,” an engineer adds.
We imagine this was the discussion the Porsche board went through to disclose the production of with a Performance Package. It has to be. The thing about the Performance Package for the Macan is that it makes an already fast SUV, quite honestly, maniacal.
Please welcome the small 2017 Porsche Macan Turbo with Performance Package. This one is the mightiest and the fastest of them all. With a 3.6-liter V6, twin-turbocharged V6 of course, this T overshadows all other SUVs with ease. With a bit of turbocharger optimisation, and, presumably, ECU remap of some kind, Porsche lifted the power of the new engine from 400hp to 440 hp and from 406 lb-ft to 442 lb-ft of torque. You may think that every other tuner could do the same and you are right, but this is only part of the upgrade. More power is healthy, yet standard Sport Chrono package is more important. And then, there are suspension mods, transmission reprogram and exhaust upgrade. All of these parts are courtesy of Porsche engineers and not some back door garage car enthusiasts.
With Porsche Active Suspension Management, the height of the Macan dropped by 0.6 inches. It is a bit harder on the back now. If Air is your thing, Porsche can install that kind of suspension too. Then, it will be 0.4 inches closer to the ground. Other improvements drivers will certainly value include beefier brakes. Disks grew in size by 1.2 inches up front. Now they measure 15.4 inches. Plenty enough to stop the beast when it starts its track or highway rampage. And rampage it will definitely be.
The Porsche Macan Turbo with the Performance Package kit is a weapon. A company announced this kit will slash 0-62 mph time by 0.4 seconds. Now we are talking about 4.4 seconds to the most important speed. What is curious is that Porsche has always been conservative with their 0-62 mph time estimates. Realistically, we are looking here at 4 seconds to 62 mph. Top speed, on the other hand, grew to 169 mph. Plenty enough.
Contrasting the Macan Turbo Performance Package from just the Turbo is a number of cosmetic tweaks. If you know where to look, you may see various trims finished in black, slightly different body kit and 21-inch Porsche 911 Turbo inspired wheels. Inside brings some Alcantara and carbon fiber bits and bobs and that is it.
What do you reckon, how much money would a tuning company charge for all this!? We do not know, but we do know that Porsche asks for a 10 grand price premium over the 2017 Porsche Macan Turbo which costs about $75,000.
At this point of time, no other car manufacturer can answer the question the Porsche Macan Turbo Performance Package asks. And the question is simple: is there anybody faster out there!? Maybe, just maybe, if the AMG GLC63 goes live will this Macan have competition. Recently revealed AMG GLC43 Coupe is simply too slow.
