McLaren 570S Spider As A Superfast Majestic Droptop
New Composite Roof As The One On 650S Spider
New McLaren is out and it is the cheapest roofless McLaren money can buy. Not that cheap though as the starting price of the McLaren 570S Spider is at cool $208,800. For the money, one can get all the McLaren one would ever need. A MonoCell II carbon-fiber tub, double wishbone suspension, brake steer and other goodies are translated from to 570S Spider as well. All else too.
But, here is the difference.
101 lbs of it actually. The 570S Spider has a bit more heft to it, but nothing to be concerned about as McLaren ensures us that the roofless 570S provides the same performance figures as the coupe. McLaren did not fiddle around with the roof too much. They used much the same system as on . In essence, the two-part lightweight composite roof opens or closes in 15 seconds up to 25 mph. Nothing extraordinary about it really. It features a fine wind deflector for keeping massive air turbulence outside the cabin, and it certainly makes the 570S look a bit more sun-loving than before. Especially in this yellow finish.
McLaren 570S Spider As Fast As The 570S Coupe
Back to the performance. Despite being a bit chunkier, the 3.8-liter with 562hp and 442 lb-ft of torque is easily powerful enough to give the 570S Spider supercar performance. 0-62 mph in 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 196 mph. Without a roof that is. With the roof up, top speed will raise to 204 mph. Just imagine hitting 196 mph with the roof down. Amazing.
The exterior changes are few and far in between. The surface behind the seats has a slightly different look to it due to all removable roof business, while the rear spoiler sits half of an inch higher than on the Coupe. The rest is much the same. Yet, we are certain the MSO (McLaren Special Operations) will make the 570S Spider as unique as possible if one asks.
Right now, McLaren offers special Launch Edition. 400 units will be made and if you are in for something like this then better act fast. McLaren is known for selling their special models like hot cakes. The car will make its debut at the Goodwood Festival Of Speed on 29 June.
“The McLaren 570S Spider is the most attainable McLaren Spider to date and adds yet another dimension to the McLaren Sports Series family. This is a convertible without compromise; its mid-engined layout and carbon fiber MonoCell II chassis guarantee the same thrilling dynamic performance and exceptional driver involvement enjoyed in a 570S Coupé, but with the added attraction of a retractable hard-top that delivers the extra exhilaration of roof-down motoring.” Mike Flewitt, Chief Executive Officer, McLaren Automotive
