SPY SHOT: The “Baby” BMW G310R Gets The GS Adventure Treatment!

The all new small capacity BMW platform has been one of the most talked about bikes over the last year. Styled as a small, versatile streetbike and powered by a 313cc liquid cooled engine boasting 33.6 hp, it’s set to become a favorite amongst learner riders, part time tourers, and stalwart commuters. We’ve seen the G310R dressed in it’s usual BMW clothes, but we’ve also seen it wrapped in TVS’s awesome racer themed bodykit. But now, and it seems that the rumors were correct, the BM310R will be receiving the full “adventure” treatment.

The first pictures emerged a little while ago, but we were to bust watching the Intermot show unfold to give them any screen time. Now a second batch has emerged from Italian bike mag Motociclismo, and we’re liking what we see.

It’s still very much the same BMW G310R, but now it comes with an adventure aesthetic – and we can also see a neat and tidy digital dash tucked away in there, but that’s about it for the details at the moment. While it might not be the most practical bike for a Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman style ride around the world, it definitely looks like it would be the perfect weapon of choice for short range touring. For many riders, it will be a little under powered, but as a cheap, reliable, and practical bike for weekend mountain trips or interstate transfers, it could be a really wise option.

It might not be called the G310GS when it finally emerges, but it seems like a good enough name for the time being, right? It’s a G310R, wearing GS Adventure clothes. The name fits. And we really can’t wait until this gets an official unveiling. A small capacity adventure bike is just what the industry is in need of – well, one that isn’t wrapped in orange and black, at least.

About Joe Appleton

I’ve done a bit of work here and there in the industry – I’ve even ridden a few bikes for actual money but what it comes down to is this: I ride bikes, build bikes and occasionally crash ‘em too. I like what I like but that certainly doesn’t make my opinion any more valid than yours…
