The 2013 Lexus IS 250
The 2013 Lexus IS 250 is a five seat sedan that is a sporty rival to the BMW 3 series. Even though it’s a rival to such a series, many say that the 2013 IS 250 has all the looks of a sedan, and the reliability and styling, but when it comes to performance, it comes up a bit short.
2013 Lexus IS 250: the overview
The base 2013 Lexus IS 250 is available at the price of $35,000. The base includes a 2.5L V6 engine, auto transmission, all wheel drive, stability and traction controls, Bluetooth, an iPod input, satellite radio and airbags, while the DVD player and navigation system are optional. The IS 250 offers a luxurious interior, as well as comfort. All in all, both comfort and luxury have more priority than performance. The cabin is finely trimmed, the build quality is solid, the ride is isolated and quiet. The problem with the interior is the lacking space in the rear seats; the legroom just isn’t good here. There are alternatives that offer more space (Volvo S60 and Acura TSX, for instance) if it’s very important to you, and if you are into more sporty vehicles, you should check the BMW 1 and 3 series or the Infinity G Sedan.
2013 Lexus IS 250: options and interior
The 2013 Lexus IS 250 comes with the rear wheel and all wheel drive trim levels. The standard equipment for the 2013 IS 250 includes keyless entry and ignition, 17 inch wheels, heated mirrors, fog lamps, dual zone auto climate, leather upholstery, a dimming rearview mirror, and eight way power seats. It also includes a 13 speaker sound system and Bluetooth and audio connectivity. The only type of transmission the Lexus offers is six speed automatic transmission.
2013 Lexus IS 250: performance and safety
The engine produces 204 horsepower and 185 pound feet torque. It takes approximately 7.9 seconds to get from 0 to 60 mph, which isn’t such a great score as the base Audi A4 and BMW 3 series models take about two seconds less to achieve the same. The fuel economy is standard: 21 mpg for city, 30 mpg for the highway, with the combined mpg being around 24 (the rear wheel drive version). The all wheel drive has 21 mpg for the city, 27 for the highway, with the combined mpg being 23. The 2013 IS 250 features antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control and side curtain airbags, as well as front seat side airbags. It scored good on side impact and frontal offset tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway safety.
The 2013 Lexus IS 250 will impress with its high cornering limits, but disappoint in other aspects; the steering is uncommunicative, the acceleration is sluggish and all of this dilutes its sense of performance quite a lot. The sporting enthusiast should think twice before purchasing it. The IS 250 is a good ride for road trippers and commuters, so if you fall into one of these two categories, you won’t be sorry.
